The Reef Artisan Collaborative Inc. (RACI) was founded in 2008 to answer the call to action for increased and improved sustainable livelihoods in Marine Protected Area (MPA) communities. We were incorporated in the state of Connecticut in February 2008 and are currently pending 501(c)(3) designation.
RACI is based in Washington DC and works in partnership with non-profit organizations to implement our programs from within the local community where our work is most needed. In 2010 we are launching three programs in Bunaken National Marine Park (BNMP) with the Reef Artisan Collaborative of Indonesia (RACI:Indonesia), RACIʼs local implementing partner, which received its Lembaga Swadaya Masyarakat, (non-profit status) in Indonesia in May 2009. The programs were developed by RACI who will facilitate program implementation with the support of RACI:Indonesiaʼs board of directors, associated staff, local community stakeholders, NGOs, municipal government departments, and key business partners such as the Bunaken Cha Cha Nature Resort.
Staff and board members on this joint project include a dynamic mix of dedicated enthusiasts: marine policy specialists, local community leaders and ex- Vice Chairman of the BNMP management body, an aquaculture specialist, creative artists, film makers, designers, photographers, linguists, and also a pool of consultants with expertise in MPA management, grant writing, anthropology, construction, finance and accounting, education systems, web design and ethnography.
