RACI:Indonesia worked with architects from Tomohon, Minahasa to design and construct two bungalows to service our programs.
They are situated on the hilltop and valley slope in Bunaken Artisan Village, which is inside RACI:indonesia’s 1.3 hectare site on the Bunaken island inside Bunaken National Marine Park. Made of bamboo and local timber under a palm-thatched roof, these structures exemplify traditional architecture of the region.
The valley slope bungalow will serve as a welcoming area for visitors, locals and tourists alike, and feature ‘fair trade’ retail shop to include handicrafts, art work, t-shirts, photography, postcards, refreshments, and traditional food snacks. This is where visitors can sign up for a cultural tour of Bunaken Artisans Village to experience hands on workshops with artisans and attend a cooking class, and where an explanation of RACI:Indonesia’s initiatives and promotional material can be found.
The hilltop bungalow will be used for RACI:Indonesia’s main office and director’s residence. Operations of our programs will be centered here, orchestrated through the board of directors and staff members to run the Artisans Village, Bunakids Youth Conservation Education Camps, and Hydroponics Greenhouse.
Each of the bungalows will be smartly decorated to utilize the key functions of the programs, and utilities of water and power will take into account the autonomous, self-sustaining nature of RACI:Indonesia’s vision. We are very proud of our consideration of renewable materials and energy sources and are dedicated to maintaining our commitment to the environment.
