OMunity Bali

OMunity Bali is a community gathering place for global minded individuals to enhance environmental, cultural, and spiritual understanding. OMunity Bali tangibly bridges the gap between environmental concerns and human interests through practical education and sustainable Sudaji community involvement. OMunity is the platform where the three elements (environment, community, and sustainability) come together. Upon entering the green grounds of OMunity, one is faced by a large structure in the shape of an octagon, which depicts ‘unity of division,’ demonstrated by eight sides that meet together. The octagon, named Wantilan Nawa Sanga (the unity and totality) is where ideas are expressed and crystallized (literally, there are crystals at the top centre of the octagon). This octagonal environment garners discussion and different ideas that are solidified through action then spread throughout. RACI has helped harvest ideas in the development of a waste management program; connecting organic farmers with sustainable, fair trade suppliers; implementing youth environmental awareness programs; and experiencing and creating cultural programs for visitors to Sudaji, demonstrating traditional, Balinese customs.

RACI works with communities to identify, train and educate local women and school-aged girls about traditional Balinese weaving methods. In order to make this an entirely community-based effort, RACI also recruits local farmers, educates them on organic farming methods, and uses only their organically grown dye ingredients in our textiles. Through this training module, RACI helps create alternative sustainable livelihoods while demonstrating cultural heritage preservation.

RACI Fundraiser for Women’s Weaving Group

On July 22, 2011 RACI hosted a fundraiser to help sponsor a group of women in learning traditional weaving practices in Sudaji, North Bali. The event included a showcase of naturally made Indonesian items for bid in a silent auction and a demonstration in traditional weaving by an experienced weaver.
